Privacy Policy
Field Guide to America is operated by NthTrip LLC ("NthTrip," "we," "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use Field Guide to America and our related sites and apps (GetNth, Field Guide to America and NewOrleansChef), how we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account information you give us when you sign in, such as your name and email address.
- Taste and preference information you choose to share: cuisines, price range, activities you like, and dietary needs or food allergies. We use dietary information only to filter recommendations for you and your group.
- Group and chat content: messages, votes and plans you create in group ("crew" or "krewe") chats, which other members of that group can see.
- Questions you ask our AI guides (Scout, Roux and others) and the answers they give.
- Location, only if you allow it in your browser or device, to show places near you.
- Device and usage information: browser type, pages viewed, and an identifier stored in your browser so your preferences are remembered.
How we use it
- To recommend restaurants, events and places that fit you and your group.
- To run group chats and shared plans.
- To help you book a table, ticket or ride with a partner when you choose to.
- To keep the service secure, fix problems and improve it.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the service:
- Service providers that host and process data for us: Google Firebase (sign-in and database), Railway and Vercel (hosting), Anthropic (AI responses), Recombee (recommendations), and Google Maps Platform (places and maps).
- Booking partners such as reservation, ticketing and ride services, when you choose to book through them. Their own privacy policies then apply.
- Destination partners, such as a chamber of commerce or tourism board that offers Field Guide to America in its area. We share only aggregated, non-identifying insights unless you agree otherwise.
- Legal reasons: when required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the public.
Event listings come from Ticketmaster and Eventbrite, and maps may load from OpenStreetMap. Those services can see your browser's request when their content loads.
Your choices
- You can view and change your preferences in the app at any time.
- You can ask us to give you a copy of, correct, or delete your information by emailing john@nthtrip.com. We respond within 30 days.
- You can turn off location access in your browser or device settings.
- Do Not Track: our sites do not currently change behavior in response to browser Do Not Track signals.
How long we keep it
We keep account and preference information while your account is active and delete it within 30 days of a verified deletion request, except where the law requires us to keep it longer.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Field Guide to America is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
California residents
If you live in California, you can request the categories of information we have collected about you and how we share it, and ask us to delete it, at john@nthtrip.com. We will not treat you differently for making a request.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email.
